It seemed just like any other day at the Academy: studying, meditating, practicing force skills and lightsaber combat. However, this time combat training was special; our master had promised us a crystal for our lightsaber if we impressed him in combat. We were so excited! Gorwuken and I fought well that time, we used different resources including force strike. It was frowned upon by some Jedi masters to use force skills to win a combat, Master Echuu Shen Jon said it was ok, though. I defeated Gorwuken, as usual, and our master rewarded us with our crystals, which we couldn’t wait to assemble into our lightsabers! It all seemed to be going well in this padawan’s life. Little did I know that would be the day my comfortable routine would come crashing down…
We were heading towards our chambers when we ran into a Duros kid whose name is Wertz Krachen, nicknamed by some as the Padawannabe. Rumor has it that he was sent to the academy but for some reason the Masters didn’t deem him fit for Jedi training. Nevertheless, he was allowed to stay and help in the hangars. When we ran into him, he seemed to be slicing a computer and reading some information about some “Bantha Rawk” guy, who’s apparently somehow related to Master Kol Skywalker. I was about to ask him what the blazes he was doing when suddenly alarms went off everywhere; we were under attack!
Gorwuken and I dashed back to where our master was. We found him and offered to fight beside him, to what he replied: “No, my young padawans. This is beyond your skill, go to your quarters and hide!” We obeyed his command grudgingly since we were eager to meet real enemies in battle. Then I’d find out the meaning of “Be careful what you wish for”.
We were attacked by a group of battle droids, and although we were outnumbered I thought “Heck, they’re just droids! We’ll make short work of them!” Darn droids were giving us a run for our money but I thought I could sense we’d win. I couldn’t sense what actually happened: Gorwuken fell. There he lay, his robes still smoking from the heavy blaster shot he’d taken. I saw red, I felt rage overtaking me and without a thought I channeled energy through my body and as I yelled, my fingers released lightning bolts which destroyed some of the attacking droids. I recklessly continued fighting the remaining droids with my lightsaber and then I realized that another padawan, a trandoshan named Tusserk was skillfully fighting beside me, and Wertz had also been accurately shooting the droids from afar. When the fight was over, I tried to pick up Gorwuken to take him to the infirmary but I heard someone say: “It’s too late, he’s dead. We must run or we’ll end up the same.” I just picked up Gorwuken’s lightsaber and whispered while grinding my teeth “I’ll avenge your death, brother.” Wertz said he knew a ship we could use to escape, so Tusserk and I followed him towards the hangar. I was hoping we wouldn’t run into more droids or stormtroopers. We came across something worse…
